What is Earth-Ache and Why Feel It?

Before you tune me out, please hear me out.  It matters on oh-so-many levels that you do.

What happens inside of you in response to the news that you hear about the
rapidly increasing prevalence of runaway wildfires, category 3+ hurricanes, supercell tornadoes, heatwaves, flooding, drought, famine, and the impacts of these events to our beloved landscapes, local economies, livelihoods, human health, and our capacity to thrive as a species for generations to come?

​Does a deep gnawing stir in the pit of your stomach?  

Does it make you feel anxious?  Restless?  

Do you want to turn and look or run the other way?  

Does a habitual routine of busyness offer you a way out of feelings of dis-ease?  

If busyness works, do those feelings sneak back in during the quiet of night or first thing in the morning before the activities of the day are underway?  

What happens when you think about your kids or your grandkids and the future state of our planet if these inclement weather events go unchecked?  

What do you do about this concern that you feel?  

Do you find yourself tuning me out right now?  

Are you tempted to leave the screen in search of words that feel more inspiring and uplifting?  

I invite you to stay.  

I invite you to ALLOW these feelings to stir.  

I invite you to allow the discomfort to swell.  

Please don't suppress it.  

These feelings in the pit of your gut are Life's CALL to you begging for a response..  

Dis-ease in a time like now is what makes you beautifully and perfectly human.

These feelings, when given space to grow, are mounting a powerful and personal response.  

The problem is, we don't allow them to grow.  

We label them as 'negative' or 'bad'.  

Our dominant culture even rewards us for overriding them, pushing ourselves past them, remaining 'productive' in spite of them.  

We need to hold space for these feelings and let them overcome us. 

We need to allow ourselves to be taken down by these feelings so they can build up a courageous, heart-inspired, deep gut-response that is uniquely ours.  

We need to feel the weight of these feelings until they drop us to our knees in search of, in surrender to, a deeper intuitive wisdom within that will guide us forward, personally, communally, as one human family.

Our heads hold us captive, swimming in comparison, seeing the other as the enemy, in competition for finite resources.  

Our heart-connected, earth-dependent, bodies hold the answers to the unprecedented predicaments impacting humanity today.  

Within our bodies and our DNA is a connection to the source of Life itself, and within our hearts is a portal to deep wisdom.  These will help us find our way forward in times like now.  

To connect to our bodies and to the deep wisdom within, we need to slow down, be mindful, be quiet, sit still, breathe deeply, and exhale fully.  

With each exhale, we unwind from the tension that has become our human condition keeping us locked up in life-depriving, disease inducing, ways.  

I invite you to slow down...to unwind...to unravel.  

I invite you to breathe deeply...and exhale fully. 

I invite you to touch your body mindfully and as you do, touch into your utter physical dependence on the well being of our planet.  

Now I invite you to place one hand on your gut and the other on your heart, to those energetic storehouses and portals to deep intuition, intelligence, and wisdom,  that which informs your reason for being in a time like now.

I invite you to allow Life's CALL to YOU to emerge.  

If you want heart-inspired, earth-body-connected, tips on holding space powerfully, feeling the ache deeply, and responding courageously, which I believe is our most sure path to both personal and planetary thriving in times like now, please subscribe.
